need s&w help
hi i got a cupple of what i think are old smiths the first is the one i want to know about now it is a 32 it has the folowing #s on it 9436 and above that is a 9 and below that is a 6 on the frame behind the crane any thing there help with year and mod.?do you need the ser.#

You are asking something like "I HAVE A GREEN AUTOMOBILE" what is it [?]0 -
It could be a model 16 but it should have a model number on it since that was intro in 1990, could be a model 31 Regulation Police which would have been before S&W assigned numbers to its models or it might even be some other brand of gun marked with .32 Smith & Wesson as the caliber, without pictures we are just poking around in the dark.
Kinda like saying "I've got a car, I think it's a Chevrolet and it's smaller than an Impala. Anybody know what it is and what its worth?"

i cant post a picture at this time but a green chevy isent what i listed its a s&w 32long the frame has 9436 stamped behind the crane with a 9 on top and a 6 under it it has 4 screws on the side plate a round but a floating hamer pin"firingpin" fixed sights and the barrel only says smith&wesson on itother than the serial# under it. it is a six shot with a hammer block a swingout cylinder and is smaller than my premodel 10 1952 38 so any ideas? 0 -

From the information given, it "appears" you have either a '32 Hand Ejector (postwar) - Pre-Model 30' or a '32 Regulation Police (postwar) - Pre-Model 31'.
Ser.# 536,000 to 712,953 were manufactured in the time period of 1946 to 1960.
Both of the above models were numbered in the same block because they had the same size frame ( first the 'I' frame 5 screw, then in 1953 they changed to the 'improved I' frame 4 screw. If your gun has the 5th screw in the front of the trigger guard, it is an "I" frame gun & was made before 1953.
The pre-30 gun is built on the round-butt frame & the pre-31 has a square-butt, otherwise the two models are the same.
You did not mention a S&W logo, it's location or size. Several foreign companies produced clones of these models. Without "made in America" & the propper logo, your gun could be one of the
'knock-off' models.

well looks like i found a winner ok to recap it has a round but a 3" pined barle 5 screws a ser#544xxx in 32long it has a s&w logo under the cylinder relice button its smaller than a dime and has trade on the top and mark on the bottem also on the bottem under mark it says reg.us.pat.off. ok the reason i want the info is to rebuild this to a reliable shooter i nead grips and most springs is there a spring kit available for this model i looked on numrich it wasent listed or i was confused as to the model i searched for a I frame no luck no 30 either or pre30 ANY MORE HELP WOULD BE GREAT 0 -

I don't know if they will have service & parts avalible for that old of a gun, but if they don't, they will probably be able to tell you who does.
