Barrel reline on 1890 Winchester

As my Marlin project is nearly complete (and as I was a recent casio winner and can now afford it), I'm looking forward to my next project.
My hobby/usual M/O is to buy a poor condition gun cheap, and attempt to bring it back to at least firing condition.
What I want to do next is an 1890 Winchester .22. Have noticed that some are chambered in .22 Long.
Can an 1890 chambered in .22 long be relined to .22LR and function w/o other mods? Thanks.

    The cartridge lifter may also be different between the long and long rifle. Check gun parts inc. and see if all the small parts have the same part number between long and long rifle.

    If you have a 3rd Model 1890 you can use a 22s,l,lr carrier from a Model 1906 or 62. All 3 used the same receiver.

    But...though you should get acceptable plinking accuracy, the .22 LR barrel was a little different. Bert wrote a few months ago that the short and long have a 1:20 and the long rifle has a 1:16. I have a .22 short and a real LR and both shoot extremely well for being as old as they are.

    Edit:
    My point is that he should make sure the right liner is installed. Also, to let him be aware that if he tries to just change the carrier, which he could do, it may not shoot as well.

    He plans on relining it to 22LR, so that won't be an issue.

    One other consideration is the outer magazine tube loading port. If you reline a 22 Short, the loading port hole will not be big enough to allow you to load 22 LR cartridges. As vepr762 mentioned, a replacement cartridge carrier will be needed as well.

    I wouldn't reline a .22 short to LR. Because even tho they cost more, they are still locally available. And I generally try to keep my projects as original as possible.
    But I'd want to get away from .22 Long to the LR. I can't recall the last time I saw .22 longs for sale in a store.
