264winmag verses 6.5x284 and 6.5 creedmore
I have owned remington model 721 in 264 winmag sense 1963 and can load any bullet weight that these other 6.5's can. I am getting my rifle back from the gun smith in a couple weeks with a new 30 inch barrel and can hardly wait. I have always shot 100 be HP's with 67 to 72 grains of H4831 which is in the 3700 Fps range, and a good load for rock chucks to elk. I will be trying the 95 grain V Max and the 100 grain balistic tip with the hopes of breaking the 4000 Fps with good long range groups. Is this posible? Comments welcome

As per breaking 4000fps, I wouldn't be surprised that it does. As far as being accurate, you will have to get back to us with a report. Predicting just what a certain bullet in any given barrel will perform like is vodoo until tried out. As far as being a long range shooter with good groups, I wouldn't expect that to be so. My understanding is that longer range shooting uses heavy for caliber bullets for their areodynamic properties and the fact that they don't shed velosity as fast as lighter bullets thus giving better long range results. Also the heavier bullets buck wind more reliably then the lighter ones as well. In 6.5cal I would be reaching for 140g or better bullets for longer range target shooting. But, hey it is your rifle, go try it and see if you like it...... 0 -
I had many years ago, did much reloading with a 6.5/06 and never did
get to 4000fps. I think you may find that just a big fps out the muzzle,
is not the goal you want to try for. The 95 gr. v max bullet has only a
.365 ballistic coeff. The much better shaped 120gr. has a BC of .465, it will stay faster and shoot flatter out there where it counts. I am wanting to to try the 6.5 creedmore with some of the Vitroni nitro enhanced powders on the market now. From what I've seen that 6.5 creedmore, does just as good as the bigger cases with less powder and less throat wear. bob0
