870 wingmaster 30" questions

I picked up a remmy 870 wingmaster, with a 30" barrel today.

what would a barrel code of KG tell me about the DOM? (ss#669254V)

I've been looking for a HD shotgun. the barrel on the shotgun is plain, with a bead sight, but at 30" is way too long. does this barrel have much resale potential? or is cutting the current one down a better option?

I'd rather not refinish (the blue is decent) so I'm thinking about having the tube cut so the finish would match.

    it looks like G was used for '60 and '86...

    any way to tell? the right side reads,

    missed that one seen the one for 1936 and knew the 870 wasn't around then I know 3" chamber became stanard in 1985 if that helps

    If I had picked it up cheap enough I would cut the barrel down. You might even go to a gun show and find someone who had a short barrel and was willing to trade.

    A guy sells NEW 18", 18.5", 20 " ect. police barrels on GB auction. Ones I looked at seem very reasonably priced. 130.00 bucks. He has his own shop AIP Tactical and specializes in 870's. I have not dealt with this man,YET, but he has a high rating on GB, and his personal business web page is impressive. May be worth checking.

    I bought a 870 wingmaster from my friend who bought it new and i was surprized to see a ZZ 1953 code on the barrel. It has the corn cob slide grip and what surprized me it also has a plastic or nylon trigger housing! I paid him 250.00 but it had an extra long skeet vent ribbed barrel with it and the shotgun was almost mint except for one scratch.
