Husqvarna project continues
Ok guys. I got the bolt body back from Ms. Littleton. The checkering job she did on the bolt knob is fantastic. Two panels with a pin stripe around each panel. Now I want to have the bolt handle and knob blued. Should I try gunkote or have a smith blue the bolt handle and knob? I'm also going to have the bolt jeweled. Is there any benefit in having the magazine follower jeweled?

I can't imagine making the effort to get a bolt handle checkered and then spray painting it...
What condition is the bolt in now?
The process I suggest is getting the bolt in the condition you want it; matte, luster or polished. Then blue the whole bolt. Polish off the parts of the bolt that you want left in-the-white or jeweled, leaving the bolt handle and knob blued. Jewel the bolt body being careful to not harm the blued parts while you work on the jeweling. Tape is a good, cheap insurance against damage.
Benefit? No benefit that has any basis in reality. It will match the bolt body but that isn't necessarily a benefit, just a visual congruency if you like that look.

What Nononsense suggests is a very good sequence for getting the results you say you want. As far as the follower, it is all estethics and one that I do on most of my rifles as I do my own jeweling. If your husky has a Mauser 98 action then I would also consider jeweling the spring insert on the bolt stop as that adds another dimension of art that some of us like. Have fun with it... 0 -

The bolt body is in excellent shape. I polished it up yesterday with some 320 grit paper then a super fine sanding foam pad. Did the same to the follower, though its angular character was a bit tricky. I have nixed the idea of gunkote on the bolt handle per the commentary received. Will have the blued. Also will have bolt body jeweled as will the follower. Thanks for all your tips over the winter!0 -

There is no spring insert on mine. The bolt stop spring fits under the bolt release knob on my husqy. I am having the knob, as well as the safety, cocking piece, extractor band and ring nitre blued.0 -

Be aware that niter bluing is a little more delicate than other forms of metal treatment such as caustic bluing. Contact surfaces will wear faster.
