appraisal of picture signed by C M spencer

I have a picture of president lincolns 7 shot target board taken in 1863 by edward bierstadt, The picture is signed on the bottom in pencil by C.M Spencer the inventor of the spencer rifles. It is for sure a pic of the original target board and the artist is verified and i was wondering where i should go to get this appraised?. I cannot find another picture taken by edward bierstadt of this target board and believe this to be the only one. The board was presented to C.M. Spencer when he left the whitehouse after the testing. Here is a pic i took of the pic and it is hard to see the pencil on the bottom.[img][/img]PICT0003.jpg

    I would suggest pursuing the professional route and contact the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography:

    Do you appraise photographs?

    The Museum does not offer appraisals of the monetary value of photographs; however staff can help the visitor to understand the photographic process, the date and significance of some photographic material. This can be an important "first step" in deciding whether to enlist the services of a professional appraiser.

    These folks will know more about this type of historical image than most others. They should be able to give you some guidance regarding an appraiser. I did my thesis research and a short internship there when I was younger.
