Herbert Schmidt mod 21
I am looking for information on a Herbert Schmidt model 21 revolver my friend has.The problem is he needs a hammer for it and there were two types made, one for a safety and one for non safety. How do I know which one he has? The reason I ask is because i'm not sure what type of a safety were made on those guns. Was it built into the hammer such as the type you pull the hammer back a notch and they call that a safety or did they actually have a safety lever or button on them? I need to know so I can get the right one. Thank you

has replacement hammers for the Schmidt Model 21.
H. Schmidt revolvers date to the 60's and 70's time frame. A number of different U.S. importers/distributors brought them in, for sale. They weren't of the best quality. If Bob doesn't have the correct hammer, it might not be worth while to put much additional time or money in obtaining a replacement. The Schmidt revolvers were sold inexpensively and don't have much collector demand/value nowadays.0 -
If it has a safety, you would see it located on the rear of the frame. It would be a little lever on the left side that can be moved to block the hammer.
While it's true that these guns have little value (approx $75 in Good condition to maybe $125. in EX), they can be decent shooters. Parts are cheap and they are usually easy to fix.
I've purchased several broken ones and fixed them. Usually IMO the main problem w/them is neglect. They are a cheap gun and people don't clean or take care of them like they would a more expensive gun. Some of the ones I've worked on were just so junked up internally that they couldn't function. I recently acquired one that shot about 2' high at 30yrds. I replaced the original front sight w/one off a Ruger Single Six. Shoots great now.0 -
Hey thanks guys! fatstrat had the answer I was looking for. Whoever had the gun before my buddy got it, jerry rigged the hammer. They drilled a flippin hole in it and mad a makeshift firing pin, and stuck that in it. I looked at the schematics and seen how it's supposed to be so i'm ordering parts for it so we can put it back to what it should be.Thanks again!!! 0 -

Numrich Arms should have parts for these as well.0
