Stevens 5100 Problem Gunsmith Help!

I have an old Stevens 5100 (16 Gauge)like the older 311's. Very good condition with what appears to be minimal use. The shotgun breaks open fine thereby cocking the firing pins . . . you can then drop snap caps in close and individually pull each of the triggers and hear the firing pins drop. Regardless of the order no problems. However when using live ammo once you pull the front trigger the rear trigger will not engage and drop. The front trigger will set off the shell; but then your down to a single shot. I have not tried to shoot in reverse order (rear trigger first). Parts are still out there for this S x S; any idea of the problem? I'd send it to a gunsmith (and maybe that's what I should do) but I'm pretty handy and if its just a matter of installation of new parts I think I could handle that. Let me know if I'm over my head. Can't get rid of it . . . great shotgun.

Too me it sounds like something is loose or broken and the recoil causes it to jam up. I would try shooting the other barrel first and see what happens. I love thoses Stevens but I am not that familar with the inner workings of them. 0 -
I wonder if the recoil could be engaging the saftey somehow. I was just looking at a exploded view on Numrich's site and that was the first thing I saw. 0
