Has anyone shot one yet? are they compareble to the Tikka? How is the accuarcy?

    As seen on Guns & Ammo TV, someone from Thompson Center showed their new bolt action rifle the ICON. Anyone have any information. It's on T/C website but nothing else?

    I have handled one, but not shot one. From what I seen, and what I know about Thompson Center, this is a very good rifle. It is very ergonomic, and it is built like a tank. I have heard nothing but good about them other than the price, and they are pricey, but worth the money...IMHO. It is one that I would like to add to my arsenal in the stainless/synthetic version in 300 Win Mag or 7MM Rem Mag.

    For a rather steep price, they will even sell one that they gaurantee 1/2MOA from.

    i have a icon in 308. its a great gun very nice trigger,accuracy is superb even with cheap factory loads. bolt throw is great and slick.only trayback is a bit heavy but in a 22/250 no big deal. would highly recommend them. thanks kevin

    Thanks Kevin, that's the kind of info I was looking for. When I get it set up and am able to hobble out to the range, I'll report back.

    Picked up the rifle on Tues. It has a very nicely figured piece of wood on it. Had no trouble mounting an older (blued) Burris 10X on it with Weaver rings. Cleaned the bore as recommended in the manual--it had been test fired. Got it out to the range on Wed. Tried the "break-in" routine. Pretty hard to concentrate when you're cleaning after every shot! But first two shots shared the same hole! Had no trouble breaking 3700 fps with a couple of loads that shot well in my 788. I think the rifle has potential for good accuracy. I do not like the plastic magazine! It's a struggle getting the third round in it and then it won't snap in place with the bolt closed--making it a three round rifle. So I just gave up and loaded two in the mag. and poked the third one in the chamber. Also, unlike Kevin, I didn't like the trigger pull. A lot of creep and about 1/8" of overtravel and a little stiff. I don't understand the mindset that designs a beautiful, complicated, adjustable trigger and then sets it to an almost unuseable condition and seals the adjustments! It's a hard one to adjust, too and, of course, they tell you not to do it. It takes a 1/4" end wrench and a tiny, tiny allen wrench. The sealant, while not exactly impervious to acetone, is certainly resistant to it and is hard to remove. The adjustments are obvious and straightforward once I got by the seals and found the tools. The creep has been eliminated; it breaks clean, but I have to fine tune the overtravel and lighten the pull a little before I'm completely satisfied with it.

    I think this is a good rifle except for the plastic magazine. 3 shots is probably not an issue for a .22/.250 but for a deer rifle, I'd be more comfortable if it held 4 or 5.

    For a rifle that shoots as well as that, and having the kind of confidance that brings to the table, one shot is all you need...even for a deer rifle. Unless you have multiple tags to fill. The key is, knowing your limits, and not going out of bounds with them. One well placed shot will take a deer...even with a 22 short.
