I messed up a gas tube being dumb and have two different ones acquired elsewhere. One is the ventilated style and the other is off a preban norinco. They both do not snap right in. I have to shorten either just a smidgen. Is this typical? Also any pointers on what works good for 922 compliance? Thanks for the replies

  You'll want to shorten the gas tube a smidge near the muzzle end.

  The internet filters over here prevent me from viewing any of the links but there ought to be some step by step instuctions on how to do it. Alot of builder were cutting down Romy G rifles to make pistols.
  
  Worst case break the dremmel and take off a smigde.
  
  As far as 922R it really depends on what stocks you want to put on the rifle. Best stocks out there for Chinese AK's are:

  They are made in the US. You might add a US fire control group like a Tapco G2 and be extra compliant. I would immagine they can tell you exactly what you need to do to be 922r compliant.
