Drilling hole for tang screw in repro stock help.

I'm installing a semi finished repro stock on an old Marlin .22 pump rifle. (A Model 47 which is a 1930's re-issue of the Model 20).
Have stock fitted to rear tang/receiver. Ready to drill hole for tang screw.
Even tho it would seem a fairly simple operation,I would appreciate any advice on proceedure. Can it be done w/a hand held drill, or should I use a drill press. (I don't have a D-P, but my father does).

    You may be able to do with a hand drill but get a small drill that will not touch the threads on the tang and then start the drill from both ends working for then to both meet in the middle once you have the both ends started take the stock off the receiver and then carefully use a larger drill just slightly larger then the screw diameter. If you only start a one end and miss the hole on the other end you have a problem

    I saw a jig for drilling a tang hole I think it was brownnells.

    You really need it locked down hard in a vise of sorts to drill that hole or you'll have a time of it.
    Check, check, and double check that your drilling in a straight line to both holes of the tang....
