ar-15 problem

Loaned one of my a3 colts to a buddy, and boy am I sorry. He brought it back with the firing pin in one hand with the pin, and the gun in a sorry state. Not sure how it happened, but this is what I am looking at.

Bolt carrier and bolt in gun, assembled. Bolt carrier will not go all the way to a closed position as the bolt is forward, and will not move back. Cannot dissasemble the rifle because of this. ANy suggestion to get this thing apart to fix?

    The gun can be dissassembled. You just have to remove both takedown pins and slide the upper forward and off.

    I am not sure what you have going on there, and would need a little more information to make a diagnosis.

    EDIT:

    If you push out both takedown pins...the rear and the front one, you should be able to pick up the front slightly and slide the whole upper reciever forward on the lower. Thus, sliding the bolt carrier out of the buffer tube. You might also try the forward assist to bring the bolt carrier forward. At anyrate, BOTH takedown pins are going to have removed to get the upper and lower seperated.

    Bolt carrier is still partially pushed back into the buffer tube, I cannot just slide it forward :(. I think I am going to have to wait till I get my tools back and pull the stock off. I am hoping with the bolt turned out of time it did not screw up the lugs from trying to slam home [xx(]

    As said before, we need further info. "With the firing pin in one hand" means the camming pin may be turned, as the firing pin is what keeps it aligned, and is jammed tight against the channel in the charge handle.

    Or, FOD behind the bolt, keeping it from retracting into the carrier. Best, Joe

    I wish I knew. He wont answer my calls. I was in texas when he borrowed it, and returned it to my wife. I cannot even fathom how any of this happened, makes no sense. The camming bolt has to be turned, I was just hoping someone might have a fix for me besides the obvious removing of the stock, as this thing has the sear block :(

    ok, just talked to him. Seems he wanted to try some new magazines he purchased and just wanted to feed the rounds through the rifle without shooting them. He removed the firing pin, so as not to risk an a.d. in his house [V]oh well

    Tell your buddy to use action proving dummies for any future mag function checks. They're the only Safe way to test firearms functions while in the house, or anywhere else for that fact.

    hence the reason I don't loan out any of my children..um I mean guns...

    a buddy wants to shoot it..thats cool, but I am gonna be standing next to him and I'm gonna get it back in the condition I gave it to him. People never take care of YOUR stuff like you take care of YOUR stuff

    If the bolt is hung up on the buffer retaining pin & part way in the tube you can still remove the upper as suggested. The takedown & hinge pin removed will allow the upper to be pulled forward and leave the BCG stuck in place. You might have to monkey around with the charging handle a bit though, to separate it from the upper.

    Looks like the sear block is stopping that from happening.

He bought magazines for a gun he doesn't even own and screwed my rifle up mokeying with it in his house.

    So the hammer is up? Can you pull the charging handle all the way back to get the hammer back down and then set the safety. This would allow you to get the front take down pin out and push the upper forward.
