Ruger MarkIII or MarkII Target

I am thinking of purchasing a MarkIII or a used MarkII Target and have read that the a used MarkII is better than a new MarkIII. I am wondering if that is true and would appreciate your comments.

    Both excellent pistols. Some object to the loaded chamber indicator of the III's. Personally they don't bother me. I'd go with whichever one I could get a better deal on; add an all steel Clarke trigger and start shootin!

    If you buy a used Mark II, if at all possible test fire it for accuracy. They aren't the easiest gun to properly clean from the chamber end and I've seen a number of then that have worn rifling at the muzzle due to cleaning from the front.

    Don't think it is the indicator, but rather the magazine safety. Most mag safetys I've read about have the common complaint of messing with the trigger pull...

    I have both and they are both accurate, trigger is very good on the MK111. I can't compare it to the MK11 because I did a trigger job on the MK11. Who cleans a 22?

    personally, i would take the 2 over the 3 anyday. i have 3 of the 2's
    my dear friend has a 3 and problems with extraction with many types of ammo and my 2 just keeps on shooting. why ruger did this is crazy." if it aint broke, dont fix it". i think ruger should of left good nuf alone. " who cleans a .22" well, folks who take care of their firearms for one and rely on them to operate when the trigger is pulled.since i am a gunsmith, those who don't , well they are my FRIENDS.

    I'll add one more here, I shot my newest Ruger 22/45 mk III 4-1/2" barrel trigger could be nicer and will be when I get to it. No problems at all. And yes it will get cleaned when I do the trigger job.

    I have an MKIII and would buy another. The loaded round indicator can easily be disabled if you so choose and the mag safety can be removed with minor smithing skills. The big plus with the III is the repositioning of the mag release to where it ought to be.

    I think the complaint on MK III with the Loaded Chamber Indicator (unfounded or not) was the fear that the LCI could get knocked hard enough (setting gun on bench) to cause the gun to fire. The 22LR is a rim fire cartridge after all.

    I have yet to hear of that happening.


    Then again, Ruger has had to recall it's 2 most recent pistol designs. LCP and the SR9.
