Colt Cobra Shroud

There's a fellow who makes a reproduction of the hammer shroud used on the Colt DS, Cobra, Agent series of revolvers - I can't think of the company name, anyone know?

I have a 1960 or so Cobra - still in the brown cardboard box with warranty card and a "Join the NRA" card. I know these are going up in value - would it be terrible as hell if I had the thing drilled & tapped for the shroud? I almost never sell my older guns, it's not as though the Cobra is going to be worth an outrageous amount of money. I generally like to keep things original, but I do like the look.

    Looking around on the web I came across a Waller & Sons in an article but if you go to their website it seems they are no longer in business. Here is the article with some pics. e-gunparts lists the part but are out of stock at the moment. http://www.azod.com/Shooting/Archive/2003/Q2/Bitten/default.htm

    Why do this to your valuable revolver. It can only cause a decfease in value. I have 2 old Cobra's. One steel without the shroud, and one alloy with the shroud. I think it's best to leave them alone, but that's just my opinion.

    Thanks - I tracked down an outfit called snubtraining that evidently bought up what's left of the shrouds, they have them for $35.00 each and make them for Smith J frames also.

    I'm with Partisan on this one.

    A documented factory shroud on a Cobra, that's great. Even with a factory Colt shroud in hand, I wouldn't mess up an otherwise collectible gun. Yet, you want to ruin a great gun with a repro shroud?

    It's your gun, but I think you'll be kicking yourself for a long time if you do it.
