getting 30cal tracer bullets to light

i purchased 100 30cal orange tip bullets off of gb. i loaded 5 rounds in my 308 using 45gr of aa2495 and a mag primer. none of the 5 lit or at least i couldnt see it out to 300 yds. think the bullets are bad? wrong powder? any help is apprec.

    I would assume a little of both. Some times those tracer projos sit for so long that they just wont light and about the powder.....not sure what is recommended.

    Tracers have a unique powder, When you see bulk Surplus components, Tracer powder is sold seperately.

    Try a single base powder(IMR3031, 4895). Some tracer bullets need the hotter burning of this type powder to light. Of course the bullets may be bad as well. Do you know if they are M25 or M62's?

    According to the Army Ammunition Data Sheets the 7.62 M62 tracer (orange tip) uses 46 grains of WC846 powder.

    I have the same info as Laredo Lefty. WC846 is the same as Hodgdon BLC(2).

    aa2495 is the same as 4895 powder. i believe these are m25 bullets. i have been told that they dont light till around 100yds, is this true? beginning to think that they are just bad bullets.

    i punched a hole in the cup over the tracer compound to see if this helps in getting them to light off. what do you think?

    I hope you're shooting these Bullets in an area that is free of Brush, Grass and Weeds and Burnable Woods..Cause its possible to start a Fire... Its also illegal to possess in a lot of Areas....Please be careful....
