Marlin 336 Firing Pin

I have a 1970 336 that I'm looking at buying. I noticed when it's in the fully open position, the rear firing pin drops down loosely as if hinged. It's the front part of the rear pin. Is this normal since it's a two piece firing pin? Does it get held in position when closed and the hammer cocked?
