AR15 varmint

Need some help purchasing an AR-15. I am looking to purchase this gun for mostly target shooting in the 200-500 yard range. Would like to spend under 1300 (guno only, before scope) if at all possible. Looking at something like the Rock River Arms Varmint Edition A4. Any suggestions on if this would be a good gun for me, and also how do I go about getting it. I know the demnd for these guns right now is unreal. Thanks in advance.


By the way I will be putting a leupold scope on it. Haven't quite decided what kind, but definintly leupold.

    Most of the major guys put out some kind of varmint rifle and are good. I personally have had a Bushmaster Varminiter for about 7 years now and love it. This gun never ceases to amaze me.

    Sine we are talking about low stock right now and hard to get this guy has some Varminiter (24") and Predator (20") uppers in stock. If you have a lower you can just drop this on and get a spare lower when you get a chance. http://davesguns.com/specials.html about half way down the page with the AR stuff.

    Well Leupold has a good following. If that is what you want then that is what you should get. If you are interested in finding out more then ask about glass.

    Here is my Varminiter but I have more then a couple bucks in it.

    Mag Pul PRS ($225), Wolf buffer spring ($15), Ergo Grip ($25), Redi Mag (used $35), GG&G extended/raised scope rail ($100), IOR 4-14x50 MP-8 dot scope ($1200), Harris Bipod ($60), Custom home made sling ($20 + labor), Barrel threading ($70), AWC Thundertrap suppressor ($1300) but fits on many guns, dozens of 20rd USGI mags.

    Nwcid's Bushy Varmint is a great gun to start with. The varmint models fromn Stag, and RRA are also stellar. I do believe that the Bushmaster varmint comes with a two stage target trigger that is incredible. The only thing on the one Nwcid's that does not come as a factory option is the muffler....wich btw Nwcid...very nice!!!!!


    Look on the auction side...there are tons of deals with the economy slow, and people loosing work. I hate to sound like a wolf, but that is just reality.

    I have an older FAR-15 (like the light PVR in the link) that is well under 1 MOA when I do my job properly.

    jsm... Take a look at the Bushmaster V-Match. I don't know if they're still using that model name for new rifles or another name. I have one that groups quite well out past 500m using 62 grain and heavier rounds.
    I put a Burris Signature Select on top with mildot reticle. Also did a JP Power Systems trigger group for that 2 pound trigger pull. I love it and the only complaint was the need for anti-walk trigger group pins (readily available from Brownells)
