What Models Are These Two?

The one with the ivory handles is by Merwin Hulbert, the other one is a Smith and Wesson.

    Hello S&W most likely either 1st or 2nd model No. 3 single action we need to know what is written on barrel the serial number and if rim fire or centerfire. The M&H is most likely early model but we need same type of info . all markings etc needed Both great items but we need more then just one picture each.

    EDIT some times people add to original serial number in an attempt to HIDE the real serial Number [:(!][V][xx(][:(][:0]. will get back to you tonight (off to Work.)

    As best as I can tell using Flayderman's Guide as a reference, the S & W is a First Model Number 3. The M & H is, a Early Large Frame, Open Top.

    Here's some more pics, the name on top of the barrel didn't turn out too well though.

    There appears to be a problem with the serial number on the butt of the S & W. The First Models were serialized in the range 1-8000. The Second Model 8000-32800. Look like the first digit of the S.N. is spurious?

    I opened up the grips, the same number is on the inside of the grip too.

    It looks to me that It was one of the First Models, with a serial number of 4149. Somebody appears to have added a digit before the first number 4. This appears to have been a 9, it hard to tell as it's only partially stamped. It doesn't appear to have been machine stamped as the other 4 numbers, rather stamped by hand.

    Ok, I went over that spot with a q-tip a little bit, it kinda looks like a smaller 4. Why would someone do that?
