Shipping Weapons

If I wanted to mail a couple of semi automatic weapons from South Africa to Texas what would it require? Import/export license or could I just mail them to my FFL person, have him register them in my name and be done. Any advise would be appreciated.

    You'd need to go thru an exporter in South Africa, and an importer in the US, and then the importer would send to a FFL in Texas for you (unless your importer is in texas...)

    It depends upon what the guns are; some are not importable to the US.

    In any case, you cannot do it yourself. Here is a link to a US importer (there are several others):

    Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it. They are allowed in the US. I ran in to a few Galil R4 and R5's NIB at an unreal price. Now all I have to do is figure out is if it will be cost effective to get them to the states.

    The non sporting import ban will not allow the importation of Israeli made semi auto Galils into the US. They would need to meet 922r specs to be considered US Made and get into the nation.

    Not exactly.

    South Africa manufacturers Galils under license, so these are probably not Israeli guns. But, it really doesn't matter in this case; importation of ALL "Galil type" AKS variants is prohibited. (See Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide, ATF P5300.4, page 168.)

    922r doesn't affect this type of case, as it applies to US assembly from imported parts any semi auto rifle or shotgun that is identical to one prohibited from importation.

    Sorry Knight, but it looks like this deal isn't going to happen for you.

    EDIT: Yeah, that's what I thought. As clones of a "prohibited" import, they would have to comply with 922r.

    I have not bought or sold Galil in the state but I have seen them for sale. Yes South Africa does make and sale them.

    My bad, what I have seen are clones not Galil.
