Buying a gun from the CMP
I've heard numerous people talking about purchasing M-1 Garands and M-1 carbines from the CMP and I was wondering since I'm a member of the NRA,would that qualify me to purchase rifles and ammuntion from them ? any help is greatly appreciated,thanks.

Go to the CMP site and you can find what you need there.
Right off the top of my head: you must be a US citizen, proof of current membership in a CMP affilliated program, proof or marksmanship, be able to pass a NICS background check, and be of proper age.
In my case I have my CCW permit and a 03FFL C&R lic so either one of them count as the proof of marksmanship, I belong to the Garand Collectors association so that takes care of my affilliated program.
You also need picture ID and copy of birth certificate.0 -
Here's a link to the CMP's purchasing requirments - http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm . Unfortunately, NRA membership does not qualify you to purchase. It doesn't even count towards the "Affiliated Organization" requirement. In order to be affiliated, a club or group has to apply to the CMP for approval. Maybe the NRA doesn't care to; I'm just guessing of course. Back in the day, NRA membership was required to purchase but that has changed.
Don't be put off by the list of requirements. It's a lot simpler than it may appear at first glance. Good luck.0 -
Membership in American Legion qualifies.
I'm glad I got my Garand a couple of years ago... the wait is very long now due to an avalanche of orders spurred by the November election. [:D]
And yes.. once you gather all the paperwork its painless. You can even put it on a credit card[:)] Then sit back and wait.0 -
I joined my state shooting association for $25. they only have one range and its 300 miles from home, but it was worth it for the ammo prices at CMP.

FWIW, if you are retired military- active or reserve- that meets the affiliation AND participation requirements, If you are commissioned officer, that also meets the citizenship proof. 0 -

On March 2nd, I mailed my order to CMP for a Garand. They should have received it on March 5th. Two weeks later I received a notice from my bank. They were issuing new credit card numbers because of some breach in their files. I e-mailed CMP and told them I would need to change the CC#. On March 17th I received a reply that stated they were just opening mail received on Feb. 17. They would call me when they got to my package for the new number. Be prepared to wait 90-120 days for your gun.That being said, join the Garand Collectors Association. It is inexpensive and the magazine that they send their members is some of the most detailed, complete and interesting information I have ever read on a particular gun. I have always wanted a Garand and soon I will have one. Go ahead and order one and spend the next couple of months buying all the necessary accessories such as a sling, bayonet, ammo etc... 0 -
M2 30-06 military ammo is drying up buy all that you can because the 30-06 I believe is not used for military purposes anymore and is not being made.M2 Ball Ammo is the best ammo to feed the M1 Garand. 0 -
