M-1 garand low serial numbers

In the March 2nd issue of Gun Digest,page 14 it shows a huge premium for low serial number M-1's even rebuilds(most of them are)I have a #56000 Springfield that was rebarreled in 1951 I got when you could only get one in a lifetime ,and an 86000 Springfield when you could get one a year.I'm not interested in selling but I can't believe that they would command such a premium even for rebuilds and unaltered ones are the price of a small house.Do people really buy them are these prices or is it just a pipe dream?

    I also have a 5 digit S/N Garand and from past posts, unless it is original, which in my case and possibly yours may have been a gas trap Garand, the value probably would not be that of a small house.

    Would be nice though.

    For a huge premium, it would need to be 3 digits or less. Or, maybe if it has original finish & no 7th round modification.

    I have a friend who is a very advanced collector of M1 Garands - he currently owns right around 500 pieces and has owned and sold over a thousand others during his 40 years of involvement...he advises the experts. Anyway, he has several unaltered gastraps - he laments that they are ONLY worth about 40 grand each in the market. This is a guy who has a serial number run of 7 consecutive numbers of wartime SAs. He recently sold one of his two Pedersen devices - for 35K. The collector prices of Garands in collector condition has gotten entirely out of hand, IMHO.
