Opinions of 3 gunshop used guns

A local gun shop took in a small collection of some very nice guns for consignment sale. I am considering buying three. Any comments about the guns or prices will be appreciated. I put a small deposit to hold these:
1.Ruger old style tang safety Model 77 International,.308 caliber with Leupold Vari-x III 1.5-5, 95% $498.
2.Golden Eagle 7mm Magnum with Redfield Lo-Pro 3-9 scope, about 95%,$525.
3. German made Weatherby Custom Magnum in 240 caliber with 3-9 Weatherby scope (the one with both adjustments on top. This rifle is very beautiful and easily is 98% or better condition. Comes with a full box of factory ammo. $1295

    If you buy the 240 Weatherby you better be a reloader, ammo is hard to find and spendy. The Ruger sounds like a good buy, don't know much about the Golden Eagle.

    Ruger with the Leupold sounds like the best deal to me. That scope alone is worth a good chunk of change. I like common calibers myself. While 308 ammo has gone up in price it's still more readily available in hunting rounds than either of the other two.

    #1 & #3 are a go, #2 while nice looking is not the best deal, repair parts are nonexistant (the price isn't bad but if it breaks, your stuck).

    i would try for all three if money were no object. at least get the eagle and the ruger. both of these are well worth the money but the weatherby might be a little slow if you decided to sell later.

    Does the "Weatherby Custom" actually have some custom features? If so, it would add to the value. Some of these features include a checkered bolt handle, damascened bolt follower, engraving on the floorplate, extra fancy wood, custom length of pull, 26 inch heavier barrel versus the standard 24 inch, etc.

    I have an early Japanese manufactured Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in .240. I love it, and have owned it since 1975. Yes, the ammo is expensive if you buy the Weatherby factory ammo and shoot very much. Now, this is mostly $50 per 20 and up. In 1975, it was about $11 or $12, but it was still a lot then.

    Weatherbys in 240 are not very common, but it is a superb cartridge for deer, pronghorns, etc. I have rebarreled mine, and have used it mostly for rockchucks. However, mine has accounted for one shot kills on a nice five point muledeer, a 13 inch pronghorn buck, and a small whitetail buck. Not to mention 1000 rockchucks.

    I would add that the scopes that Weatherby branded were, to my knowledge, not actually made by Weatherby. They made two different levels I recall, one was called the "Premier", and the other was called the "Supreme", and I recall that the "Supreme" was the more expensive of the two levels, and was purportedly of higher quality. I seem to recall that no one seemed to know who actually made these scopes for Weatherby, but it could have been a number of different Japanese manufacturers who made them to Weathery's specs. Although I am no expert on this, the opinion on these scopes was that they were not superb quality, but probably reasonably good. After all, that scope is probably 40 years old, and was probably comparable to many moderately priced scopes of that era.

    Believe either Pecar or Nickle made scopes for German made Weatherbys. At least in the 1963-65 time frame. We sold both in the Rod and Gun Club in Giessen.

    Thanks for your replies. If there is a way, I hope to get all three. The Weatherby 240 is marked "Custom" on the floorplate and has a little engraving there. The barrel is 26 inches and the wood is what appears to me to be semi-fancy. I plan to replace the scope with a nice Berlin PECAR 3-9 I've been saving and then put the Weatherby scope on a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in 300 W. Magnum I've had for a while. The Weatherby .240 may become my "all purpose" Eastern whitetail/varmint rifle if it shoots good.

    I know the ruger would make a solid deer gun, If you wanna make a profit, it should be a good choice. Cant say about the ithers.
