Hard cases for shipping
Can anyone put me on the right track to find some inexpensive hard cases to ship rifles in. The places I've been to in my home town have the cases that start at $22 and that is a bit much to give away or charge a buyer for.-Thanks, Mike

Doscocil makes an inexpensive hard case for around $10, you can probably buy them from Walmart. I checked Midway and Natchez and they don't carry the real inexpensive case. My local dealer buys them from Big Rock Sports in Montana. 0 -
I buy second hand ones from local gun shops and pawn shops. Since it's packing, most people don't object to it having been used previously and I usually get them for under $10.
When I moved from California to Georgia four years ago I found a sale at a Big 5 Sporting Goods where they had the double gun Doskocil Rifle Case (fit two scoped rifles) on sale for $20 apiece. I walked in and told the guy I needed more than they had out, about six if I recall. He said they had plenty in the back so I told him "Okay, I need 32 of them". After he understood I was serious, they called two other stores and got them all for me.
I have pretty much used that stock up since relocating to Arizona but still have a few left. The only problem with the double cases is the extra shipping cost but I have had the buyer opt to pay an additional couple of bucks for the double hard case.
Keep an eye out on the sales at Academy or Big 5. A friend told me he made a deal with an Acadamy store to buy 20 single hard cases for about half price because he bought all they had. I guess hard cases aren't big movers and they are somewhat bulky so that's worth a try if theres any in your area.

i just won a rifle on the auction side and paid 20.00 for the hard case. i am taking it to be plastic? if it protects it in transit it will be worth it to me. 0 -
I had to spend $27 for an "airline approved" case so a gun could be brought back from TX.
there is an outfit online that sells cardboard shipping boxes for rifles that are adequate for getting a gun to a buyer.
I'll look for the link and post it.

I've bought at wallys too for the best price. Please note though that some firearms need better wrapping inside these due to some rifles are not held tight. Last year I bought a remington 600 that was held firmly on the stock end, but barrel end would move back and forth and ended up cracking the stock. Shippers beat these up and the cases don't even show damage on the outside. It was a real mess trying to get some sort of credit which I never was able to get. Rifle is still resting in the case and makes me sick when ever I think about it. Seller thought these cases are the cats azz and shouldn't need any extra wrapping.Just thought I would share that with you so it doesn't happen to you. 0 -
That is a perfect cross section of replies and covers all of the problems and solutions. Thanks to all of you. I checked with wallyworld and they no longer carry a hard case in any of their three stores in town. The $20.00 case can be had in a few places. I too find that extra packing needs to be added for the best protection. I will give the pawnshops a look when I get some time. Thanks again-Mike 0 -
Before you put the rifle in the case, wrap in in bubble wrap; that will keep it from moving around in the case during shipment. 0
