Ruger LCR

I'm new to fire arms (5 months) so please forgive any thing really stupid while I ramp up. I just purchased a Ruger LCR rated for +P .38 Special ammo. It's just for target use. Can I load .38 Special instead? The +P version appears to be very expensive. Thanks!

    I see they must be out as there are some listed on the auction side. Anyone fired one or have an opinion yet?

    Yeah overpriced for what they are.

    Not revolutionary either. The Ruskies did polmer years ago in a revolver. It was a 357, and a break open as well. Much cooler.

    I'd get a cz-83 or similar sized pistol. Atleast with them you can shoot tight groups and use them for a blunt weapons. Tiny plastic pistls have almost no apeal to me. atleast the keltec pocket guns wont print, you cant say that about a revolver. unless it is an naa kind of thing.

    I haven't tried one, but I would really like to.

    No flipping way would I pay $800 for one, though, especially when I could buy one of the Smith Scandium 357s for less than that, or two of the "ordinary" airweights for not much more.

    My opinion on this is simple. Pocket hammerless .38 revolvers are immensely popular guns in the USA and Ruger is simply trying to get market share in that category. For example, I've heard that the hammerless airweight Smith model 642 is actually its best-selling revolver.

    Prior to this gun, the only revolver that Ruger had that might work in that category is its SP101, but that revolver is quite heavy and bulky compared to the competitors models. For most people it just isn't suitable as a "pocket" gun.

    So looking at things from THAT angle, this gun makes perfect sense. . .AS A MARKETING ANGLE. Ruger wants in on one of the biggest categories in CCW guns. So it put out a "futuristic" looking polymer DA pocket revolver that is weight-comparable to the competitors models.

    It doesn't REALLY have to be "better" (though obviously if it is, that's a good thing). So long as its DIFFERENT, and Ruger can tout some advantage (real, imagined, or miniscule), some of the people in the market for this sort of gun will buy it over its competitors, and Ruger gets market share.

    Pretty simple, no?

    On the actual design, again, I haven't tried one, but I'm disappointed to see that Ruger went the route of producing some super space-age looking pocket gun, but STILL put crappy "gutter" sights on it! There might be an advantage here *IF* it has a nice trigger pull, but not having tried one (yet) I can't render any opinion on that.

    Frankly, I don't believe claims that it has less recoil than similar competitors models, as using similar weight guns with similar rounds, grip shape/fit is going to be the only real difference as far as perceived recoil. Given that there a gazillion different aftermarket grips available for standard Smith J-frames, I doubt that this particular Ruger design has all of them beat.

    Yeah, I remember those all over the shelves of gun stores around here...

    (and yes, I am being sarcastic because as far as I know, the Russian polymer revolver made it onto www.world.guns.ru and that's about it)

    I saw and held 2. They are light. ANd they are very ugly, and do not feel safe. I would suspect this one will be recalled like there last 2 pistol inventions. I think it is a bit overpriced. It should be a $325 to $375 revolver.

    But you haven't actually fired the gun, have you?

    If I'm not mistaken, the question was if anyone had actually fired the durned thing.[;)]

    For my money, I will stick to Scandium J-Framed 357 Magnum. Lighter, and known to be dependable.

    I fail to see an advantage of Ruger's LCR's over S&W Airlites.

    Except for my Taurus Judge all my hand guns a SAA. My smallest carry is sheriff's model 45lc with birdshead grip. Can't get inti auto handguns. They have no appeal to me, besides I can't hit squat with them.
