Colt 1911 casing

I am saving my brass because ammo isn't getting any cheaper [xx(]

The 70 Govt model puts a nice size crimp in the casing when it is ejected. Is that normal or does something needs tweaked ?

    It's perfectly normal on a stock/right-outta-the-box 1911, & the conditions that cause it could easily be tuned-out or corrected if needed.

    ...A GOOD 1911 PISTOLSMITH to start with, and it's easy...but, depending on how you look at your Colt, the work area will need to be finished as it will have raw/unfinished steel once the work is done. Of course you could have the area "touched up" w/cold blue...a blue "pen" works "pretty good" for touching up behind the work in the e-port area


    ..Flared, lowered, beveled (I wouldn't have the bevel done, no need in IMO) ejection port will/should correct your dented brass problem...don't go taking a Dremel tool to it either...you'd have to decide "what" is best for you with the "finish" part...entire re-finish is the "best"...but then it's not original anymore...and that, is a whole new can of worms...[:D]

    A lowered ejection port will solve your problem. Unless you are a gunsmith, I wouldn't try this at home.

    I have a Ithaca 1911A1 that was my fathers. I was wondering if you knew what it might be worth.

    The extractor and ejector can be adjusted to minimize brass denting if you don't want to alter the appearance of your gun.

    Jason: A clean, original, unaltered Ithaca is worth many hundreds of dollars, likely well over a thousand. Arsenal refurbishment with parts mixed by the army will cut it down a lot. Gunsmith modifications as used to be common when they were cheap surplus will destroy its collector value and leave it at whatever a gun to shoot is worth.

    Jason, I woulld sart a new topic called "Ithaca 1911 value" you will have to post clear pictures if you want a reasonable approxiamtion. Ready the sticky,on pictures if you don't know how..


    Guys, thanks for your help ! Now I know how to fix it... I was getting ready to say I'd have a gunsmith look at it, then I remembered it's a nickel finish, so I'll just leave it alone but cause I won't be re-nickeling it ..
