H&R Sportsman 999

Have an H&R sportsman want to know if there is a way to ajust the rear sight. Looks like there is a screw for windage but none for elevation. The gun shoots high.Anyone know how to fix. thanks.

  I am trying to find the manufacture date of an H&R Sportsman model 999 that I recently acquired. I looked all over the net but cant seem to find the answer to this. The serial number starts off HG02xxxx. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  As Laredo's picture shows - all but the first 2000 or so (made in 1932) have the height adjustment screw in the front of the barrel and it moves the front sight up and down for elevation correction. Earliest ones were only adjustable for windage, unless you wanted to file the front sight - which I have seen done on a couple very early pieces.

  I gotta buy me one of those 999's being I don't want to shoot my Eureka since finding out (here) how rare it is.
