Scope or Rifle Problem
Hello,
I have a question in regards to my Rem. Model 700, It is a 7mm Rem. Ultra Mag... I purchased it in Nov of 2000 When i was honerably discharged from the USMC... I also purchased a Nikon Buckmaster 4-15x40 Scope for it at the time of purchase... I recently decided that it was time to get back into the swing of things and start shooting again... The gun was just fired for the first time a couple of months ago, to this day it has had only 20 round shot from it... My problem is that everytime I pull the trigger or the gunsmith that it is at 100yds of 3 more inches... I have and the gunsmith bore sighted, changed the rings, and sent the scope to nikon for repair, No repair needed is wht nikon has said to both I and the gunsmith... What is wrong with my rifle???

honest injun, you were in the Marines for four years and you don't know how to sight in a weapon. i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but some of your creditability maybe on the slide 0 -
He could of been a paper pusher or something The marines have many non fighting positions. That being said, and a gunsmith has worked on it, and he doesn't have a answer. Either he's a poor gunsmith, you can't hold still when shooting, the load doesn't match the gun, or you got a bad gun. Too many variables to answer over the net. 0 -

what exatly are you trying to ask, are you getting 3 inch groups at 100 yrds? are the groups 'wandering' around? with less than 20 rounds fired the rifle hasn't even started to 'break-in' yet. what about load developement or trying different loadings? 0 -
Factory ammo should be doing better than that. You may have a barrel &/or receiver bedding problem; a problem barrel; a problem with the crown on the barrel, etc. There are a number of things it could be. Shooting a heavy recoiling bolt rifle from a bench rest is sorta different than an M-16 from prone. Remington doesn't put a muzzle break on their guns and they are very difficult to tame from the bench. Try some different brands of ammo and even some handloads. If the gun wasn't new when you bought it the barrel could be worn or was poorly cared for. Hang in there and keep at it. 0 -
I really have ran out of idieas of wht is wrong with it
at 100 yards on the bench bags dead center of target the first shot fired is 3" right of target fire second shot it goes 6" right third shot 9" right
adjusting scope according to the three inch right at 100 yards shoul bring it back to 6 in right at least on paper it should, fire shot number 4 and it is still 9" right
adjust scope 6" left to bring it back to at least 3" from dead center fire shot five and the damn thing is now 12 inches right and up one inch, so i must have pulled or jercked the trigger
fire shot six and the darn thing just keeps walking right it is now of the target completly almost 18 inches
adjusted scope accordingly fired shot seven and the darn thing is 3" right of center, fired shot eight and it is 6" right, fired nine and 9" right, at this time i sent it to the gunsmith...
All he told me was I can shoot it in with the 11 rounds and $60, come back three days later and he recommended sending the scope to nikon to have it checked which i did brought it back he mounted it with new rings and used the six rounds he had left from the box i gave him and same results...
Now the shop wants to free float the barrel and do some other stuff at the tune of like 600 bucks, just want to know if anyone has any suggestions before i go ahead and spend all this money0 -
1st give the guy a break. Most Marines Just shoot open sights. Scopes are something new.
Ok how much time is there between shots.
Try putting a dollar bill between the stock and barrel. Should be able to.

Like i have said in other post i am not the sharpest tool in the shed but is all of this really need to be done or am i getting shafted again... I have a 30-30, 223, 308, 30-06, and i have never ran into this kinda problem before this is why i am askin...0 -

I am sorry you are getting so many "wise guy" comments, but this is my guess. I feel it is the scope and would normally say go try another scope. But...I would get rid of the rifle. Then demand an exchange on the scope for a Buris Signature Select scope. I know it's been a while but be tough. If the scope looks new they should be able to do it. Then I would get a Tika T3 standard 7mm, install the Buris scope and live happly ever after. I am not saying it will be cheap, but that crap will drive you crazy. How much time and ammunition has been wasted already?

time between shots depends on how much i wrote down in my log book, the time it takes me to get back into position on the gun and get the crosshairs bak to center of target if i made an adjustment, the tried to keep it at like five mins so that the barrel staid at some what the same temp... it could have been the table i was at as the darn gun dang near knocked the whole table over the first time i shot it, I am not ruling out operator error at all but just seems funny that it does same thing to the gun smith0
