I am looking at a used Dan Wesson 357 revolver. It looks good. However the rear sight is a notch in the frame. There is no adjustment. Can I trust it to shoot to the point of aim? Also how difficult, ($) to add a scope or other optical sight? Is Dan Wesson a good revolver?

    Have a chance to buy a Dan Wesson 357mag, serial#190746 would like to know the model/year of this gun. adjustable sights, 4" barrel. Also when the gun warms up from being shot the trigger stays back in the fired position, and has to be pushed forward manually to reset, any thoughts?

    Nope, not normal. Could be why it has never been fired. [;)]

    These are fairley well built revolvers, someone may have taken it apart to do a trigger job and did not get it back together right. There was a life time warrenty on the revolver when it was manufactured, the company has changed hands at least two times, worth it to give them a call and see if they will fix it.

    CZ now owns Dan Wesson. It's a long shot but contact them. I've had a few DW revolvers, they didn't make a DA only version. May have been assembled incorrectly - there's a spring in there that requires a third hand to reassemble the gun - or someone may have ruined the SA notch.

    Just from memory, I think the SA overtravel could be adjusted via a screw, don't remember if it's on/in the frame or the back side of the trigger. Since SA pull is almost always a touch longer travel than the DA pull, it could be that the hammer & trigger are not traveling far enough back for the sear on the trigger to engage the SA notch on the hammer. In my experience, even if someone has really destroyed the SA notch there should be something left behind -you should feel some little "hitch" when the SA sear hits the almost obliterated SA notch.

    Not normal and not right. Don't bother calling the factory, they will not perform any warranty work on it although they might service it for a price.

    That being said, Dan Wesson Model 15's (I'm assuming a 1987 .357 mag is a model 15, if it has adjustable sights. If the sights are fixed it's a model 14)are robust, well made and extremely accurate revolvers with a 'different' trigger pull, not bad, just different. I suspect as has already been suggested that someone tried "improving" it and left something out. Since parts are easy to come by and the gun itself not hard to work on, I would take it to a local gunsmith and have it looked at. Probably cheaper than sending it to the factory.

    Try cleaning the action first. Mine was better than 20 years old when I bought it NIB (early 70's Monson Mass 15-2 VH). The hammer fall was so slow it couldn't have set off a primer. Cleaning out the factory preservative straightened her right out.

    Best 135 dollars I ever spent.

    Loosen the screw that holds in the grips. Sometimes the screw gets caught on the spring and prevents it from cocking. I had a similar problem with mine, and that fixed it right up.
