New scope in $200-$250 range

This is my budget for a Remington 700 .30-06 I recently purchased. What about ring/bases? Will be used for deer/elk in Utah.

    For rings and bases you want Burris Signature select, as I assume you do not plan to lap your rings? Frankly, I don't think you can get much of a scope at that price, and I would suggest saving for longer and buying better. If that is just not possible then look for a good quality used scope, perhaps here on gunbroker. Leupold, Burris, Khales all are good.

    Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 is under $200.00 and are great scopes.

    burris is excellent choice. i have also used the nikon 3x9 with bdc reticle and really like that scope. i can buy the nikon here for $160.00 to $170.00. makes a good scope for the money. use the best scope mounts that you can.

    If you can find a good used Bausch Lomb, 2000 or 3000 they are great scopes.

    For just over your budget they have Burris 4.5-14x42 FF2 that I like very much.

    Would stick with Burris, Nikon, Leupold or Sightron.

    He Dog is right oon the money. I would get the dual dovetail mounts and signature rings from Burris. I would then put in a Fullfield II in 3-9x, and that should come to the edge of your budget. You will be shorting yourself in the Leupold Rifleman or VX-I series for the same money. Nikon's are good also, but the warranties are a pain. I would stay away from the Simmons, Tasco, and Bushnell/Bausch & Lomb. They are a headache waiting to happen. Remember a scope is not just something to toss in the rings and adjust so it looks right to you. They need to be square to the bore, so when you adjust the elevation, you don't get windage too. I use a set of small levels for this...one is a torpedo, and the other is a machinist protractor level.

    These guys are right on. I have several Burris Fullfield II scopes in 3X9. They are a good all-around scope for the money. I did have an issue with an older Burris Signature scope and absolutely could not complain with Burris' warrenty dept.

    I work at Dick's, and as they are the Wal-Mart of gun sellers, the best we carry is Leupold VX-II's, Burris FFII's and Nikons. I have been favorably impressed with the Nikon BDC's, and they can generally be gotten under your price ceiling.

    A bit of advice on the FFII: you might be able to find some around still (the 3-9x40) that include a Garmin GPS unit for around $180. I picked one up a few weeks ago and am happy with that deciaion too. I see a bunch of leupolds at the range I work at as well, and have a hard time criticizing them. That said, I really like the Nikons best.
