Rock Island Auction Compnay

The Rock Island Auction Company seems to provide a thorough description of the guns it has up for bid. Does anyone have any experience on wheather they are accurate and wheather the prices they estimate are in the ball park?

    From what I can tell, their descriptions are very accurate indeed. A typical catalog of an auction is a book. Very good color photos of each item.

    I live just across the Mississippi from Rock Island and always am working when they have a sale, so not there myself. However, friends who do go to an auction tell me that the auctioneer does not dwell very long on any one item. They seem to try to get the highest possible price I have been told. It appears the estimates are in the ball park. I hope to be able to run over there one of these as I am going part-time next week.

    Read the fine print.

    They only guaranty the description in the line at the top of the page. So, a gun may be refinished, repaired, or an outright fake, it doesn't matter; it's the buyer's loss. Yet, many people bid based solely on the catalog write-up.

    I would only bid on one of their guns if 1) I were an expert on the item, & 2) I could physically examine it before the auction.

    Good auction, Great People!
    Fast Paced.........4 sure-Average 3 items per minute.
    Whether it's $500 or $50,000, same average.
    (Remember when and when not to scratch you ear or nose!!!!!!!!!)
    Concerning catalog descriptions. Most are accurate or close to.
    Everybody's 95%, may vary from your 95% (condition).
    Re-read Neal's post, can't be said any better.
    If it's High $, and you're interested; it would be worth
    your while, to go and inspect it in person.
    Bought many items there, and have passed on several that
    the pictures in catalog made look better than in reality, it was.
    Picture of one side of receiver, does not always represent the
    other side. (Or barrel, or stock, etc.)

    there descriptions are fairly accurate and on the price side i would say that there auction estimates are pretty close although a few go higher and a few go lower. you can also bid online and over the phone too. or place a bid early as a mail in. good people to talk with and buy or sell from. fast paced so don't wait or you will be bidding on 2 guns down the line.

    I sold a lot of my husbands guns at rock island, and I wish I had not done it, should have sold locally. Was most disappointed. A few sold good, but not many.[:(]

    Use caution and ask any and all questions before bidding, most especially if there are any questions as to whether or not an item is in factory original condition.

    Last auction I failed to bid on two lots I really wanted because of way high estimates and the lots sold for prices I would have gladly paid. I would ignore the estimates and just bid what you think the item is worth.
