snake shot compatiable with other pistols?

Ok, So I have a S&W 38 +p i use as a ccw. I recently saw in a sporting goods store some snakeshot rounds chambered in 38 as well. My question is....if I fire these rounds through my 38 will it hurt the barrel or harm my revolver in anyway?

Thanks for the info.

*NOTE: im not planning on using these for ccw, however they would be great to have when im hunting for other game if I could shoot them without damage to my revolver.

    will not damage your pistol . if this is the design that has blue plastic nose .

    yeah it has a see through blue plastic case.

    No problem. Have heard folks claiming that the shot would "hurt the rifling in the barrel." Lead shot, inside a plastic capsule. If THAT hurts your barrel, barrel must be made of carboard.

    As others have posted, the lead shot won't hurt your barrel rifling. However, the rifling will impart a spin on the birdshot/snakeshot and it will spiral outward quite rapidly, destroying your pattern. In my experience, using #9 shot in a Model 9422, the effective distance (like shooting at a snake head) was maybe 8-10 ft. The closer, the better. After that, the #9 shot pattern was too open to be of much use.

    It's also not a good idea to shoot shot shell rounds out of a revolver with a ported barrel[;)]

    A short barreled revolver will have better results than in a rifle using shot shells.

    I have dispatched many a snake with the little blue rounds in both rifles and pistols. Keep a 4" SW66 on my workbench loaded with them and it has three notches...the last was one that slitered into my garage and I had to angle the shot not to hit my Miata! Not to worry about damaging the barrel but, man, do they do a number on the critter! Good shooting.

    Won't hurt the barrel, but it can create some cleaning headaches.

    Great! Thanks for all the info. I have a S&W 642 (airweight & internal hammer). I look foward to buying some of these rounds now for hunting trips.

    No problem for the pistol, but don't forget to replace them with your "real" ammo for CCW.
