Opinion on a trade
What do you guys think of trading a S&W model 41 in GOOD condition for an AR? Good trade/bad trade?

Dont know the value of the 41 but for me it would come down to what you want or would use more.
If you think you would use the AR over 41 go for it assuming there is not a huge value difference.0 -
41s in general running right now $600-950 ars running right now $900-1850. so high end of the 41 equals low end of the ar. alot depends on what you are wanting to do. 0 -
Arrange to go to the range and let both of you try/shoot the two. If you like the AR and he likes the M41 then do it, unless you have one of the rarer M41s. I wouldn't be surprised if the AR had glitches or was well worn cause at first look you are getting a much better deal. Tell us more about the AR and we can probably give better suggestions. 0 -
Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I'll admit it, I'm kinda get caught up in the crazy price hikes of the semi autos-particularly AR's and AK's. I've replied to a couple of ads locally who were looking to trade "extra" rifles that they discovered in their safes. I would definately need to shoot it first but I figure it might be a good investmest. I love my 41 and shoot it everytime I go to the range. You can't get cheaper than a 22 for all day shooting and even though it's a bit small for kids hands, I've taken several of my friends boys and wives to the range and they've had a great time. Ya know, now that I think about it, I've already got an AR. I think this gun will get handed down to my son one day like I pictured it would before I started to lose my mind and got sucked into the hype. .22 handguns are hot now as well. Alot of people who don't like shooting the "big bores" are still wanting a handgun. 0 -
Yeah, I really like the pistol and considering the age and condition it's in I really shouldn't have considered getting rid of it. 2 AK's 3 SKS's, a S&W 686, and an FR* Mauser I've let go I wish I hadn't-you think I'd of learned by now. 0 -
I love my 41 and would never trade it. I see quite a few for sale at the gun shows for about 750 here in the northeast.

The fact that prices on AR's are very high now, because people believe they will not be able to get one next week (or next year or whenever), does not mean you need one more than you did last year. What other people want is not a good indication of what you need or want. Leave popularity contests to those who are also absorbed by what the Hollywood "Stars" are doing.
I would take your 41 any day over an AR, but that is just me, I have no real use for an AR and like a good Smith.0 -
KEEP THE 41, It's a good solid investment and a fine piece. The price on AR's will rise and fall depending on the state of fairs. Your 41 will only go up. JUST MY THOUGHT!!!! 0 -
I will join the "keep the 41" parade. I have three and enjoy them all and what shooters they are! Would never, say never, part with any of the three. Have the Colt AR's too, but much enjoy shooting the .22 Smiths. They will do nothing but appreciate in value over the years while the AR's will go up and down, depending on the political climate. But trade a 41 for an AR? Never. Good shooting! 0
