Shipping a rifle to California

Is it required to ship FROM an FFL (from outside of California) when shipping a rifle TO California? I do understand that you have to ship TO an FFL, but do not understand if an individual can ship to that FFL. Thanks for any help and any information locations!

    If more people like you bothered to read the law you wouldnt be wasting your time worrying about California Gun Laws. How do you find out: try Goggle "California Gun Laws". If you can get that far you will see that the California Law does not apply to non ffl dealers. If you are an FFL dealer then you must compy. Is that clear?

    A nonlicensed individual can legally ship a firearm directly to a CA FFL without shipping from an FFL - you are not required per CA law to ship the gun from your FFL. It's been that way for as long as I can recall, the recent CA changes (CFLC) don't change that. The new law effects only Type 01 FFLs (dealer) when shipping a firearm to a CA Type 01 FFL. And a Type 01 FFL can still ship a C & R eligible long gun directly to a Type 03 FFL (Collector) in CA without having to use the CFLC system.

    Just make certain (or have the person ultimately getting the gun from the CA FFL dealer make certain) that everyone knows up front whether the receiving dealer will accept a gun from a nonlicensened person & what ID they may require. Again, there's no CA law requiring the gun be sent from an FFL, but some FFLs as a business practice onlymay not accept a gun from a nonlicensed individual.

    Definately check with the person you are sending it to that their FFL will accept it from a non ffl for a REASONABLE fee as well. If you do a person to person transfer IN CA there is a set limit by CA law as to what the dealer can charge. If the gun is coming from another state I have found places like Turners in southern CA trying to snag $150 "fee" for doing the out of state transfer.
