winchester model 94 trails end .45colt
I just recently purchased a winchester model 94 trails end colt. I was told that 230g .45 was best to shoot with this gun. I wanted to make sure this was the case, or any other suggestions would be very helpful.

Yep. I like them. They are not listed on the Hornady site, and Cabela's claims they are a Cabela's exclusive. If the rider is correct (he is, I checked and though they are out they are cheaper than Cabela's http://tinyurl.com/cb4j6l ), that will lead to competition which will perhaps make for better prices for us. 0 -
I shoot the standard load of a 250 grain Round Nose or 250 grain Semi wadcutter thru mine with excellent results. 0 -

My local Gander Mountain store currently has .45 Colt Leverevolution cartridges in stock, so they seem to be relatively available. I would agree these would be a good choice.0 -
230 grain bullets,which are usually for a .45acp round lack a crimp groove,and in a tube magezine I like a roll crimp so that bullet setback does not occur.
The traditional bullet for that calibe is a 250-255 grain cast lead bullet.They are also cheaper to shoot than jacketed,and take less powder to launch.8 grains Unique under that bullet will produce a very nice 'thump' on both ends.0 -

magtech makes a "cowboy action" round of 250gr thats 0.50/round retail. my guns like it.[:)]
