.348 Winchester or .348 Ackley

I have acquired two barrels for a model 71 Browning, one is presumed to be the factory chambered .348 Winchester, the other is .348 Ackley Improved but is not marked as such. How could I positively id each barrel?

  Have a cast made of the chambers.

  As the man said- cast the chambers. Cerrosafe is available from a number of companies (Midway, Brownells, etc) and is used to cast the chamber. Measuring the casting and comparing to the cartridge dimesnions tells you exactly what it is. If you do not have the mikes, etc to read the dimensions, any good smith should be capable of doing it.   make a visual comparison of the two chamber castings. The one with the steeper shoulder will be the Ackley Improved version.
