Restocking Rem. 700 SPS .300 win mag

Ok

I have been in contact with some of you about this 700 SPS...

So I have the rifle... I have ordered the stock for it as well...

It is a Knoxx Compstock (Hogue Overmold) Full aluminum bed block that extends full length into the forend...


I have looked into bedding it myself... I think I can handle it based on the info the forum has given me and the tutorials I have read.

2 questions -

#1 Would Acra Glass work best for this stock

#2 In the Brownells tutorial they wrap the gun in surgical tubing... Why not just put the screws in (coated with release agent) and make them hand tight?

  Like I have mentioned before, my bedding material of choice is Brownell's Steel Bed. I t does not crumble over time either, and has a 1:1 mix ratio, and great characteristics to work with...even a dummy like me can use it with great results.
  
  The surgical tubing is so you do not take the chance of epoxying the action bolts in the action, and have a hard time getting them out. Fill all the holes in the action with clay or wax, so no bedding compound gets into them, and creates a mechanical lock also. I am sure you will be able to handle this...don't forget to use release agent. I use the Hornady One Shot case lube...works great.

  If you use tubing you still need something to make sure the barreled action is square to the stock, I use headless screws taped to fit to make sure everything is lined up..
  Screw the headless screws down tight to the receiver, coat em good with KIWI shoe polish
  and ease the action down into the bedding, and then apply the tubing just enough to keep it all in place til it cures....
