bird bombs
Can a person still find the firecracker type bird bombs, that were launched with a 22cal starter pistol and 22 blank cartridge?Crows are starting to flock and roost in shelterbelt.Would like to change their minds!SUPPORT THE NRA

I have a box of these but have been cautious about shooting them. They are 12 gauge with what looks to be an M-80 inside the fuse is lit by the primer. Anybody know how far they shoot and what propels the M-80 out the barrel, fuse acts like a rocket?? How long from the time the trigger is pulled till it leaves the barrel 0 -
i once used those things to amuse the kids on July 4th, "Independence Day" BTW [:D]
the fuse is lit by a small powder charge which propels the "M-80" out the barrel, they will "shoot" about 150 feet upwards when barrel is elevated at approximately 70 degree angle.

"" How long from the time the trigger is pulled till it leaves the barrel"" about the same time a 1 1/8th oz. load of shot takes, it is pretty much instantaneous, from the time you squeeze the trigger till the charge explodes is about two to three seconds and is well over 150 feet away.
what brand name on those rounds ? is there a color code on them ? any markings or printing ? how old are they ?0 -

watch those suckers, they were going off just as they exited and in the barrel. scared the crap out of the kids. i won't use them anymore. though fun when they work properly. 0 -
We used them to scare off sea lions from chasing the salmon we would be reeling bring in. I cannot remember the brand.
I know researchers use them to scare off polar bears.0 -
the ones in the orange all plastic shells had the chinese bombs in them ,i too had some go off at the end of the barrel..stoneco now come in 25 round box with a different bomb in them,,i have not fired the new ones ,,saveing for special occasion[}:)] 0 -
use them to scare the bear from my feeder in the spring. Dad called them "bang-pops" and were used to "un-roost" crows. The last year they have been pretty hard to get. I'm down to 4, mine are marked FIOCCHI on the base, box is marked "shellcracker". 0 -

When I was working for the fish hatcheries, we used the bird bomb "cracker shells" for preditor control.
They are intended for use in a 12 Ga. shotgun with open choke (cylinder bore). The shells I shot had a warning label "DO NOT use in full choke guns".
As stated they have a primary charge to throw the cracker charge & they usually fly about 25/35 yards depending on how much you elevate the muzzle of the gun. When firing, there will be a mild report with next to no recoil, velocity is slow & you will be able to see the cracker in flight. The fuse is fast by fireworks standards, Do not attempt to light the cracker by hand!
The ones I used are mildly corrosive. I believe the fuse on the cracker shell is probably black powder or whatever they use for fireworks. After firing, I recommend a thorough soap & water cleaning.

never used the 12ga ones but i did have some 37mm ones when they were still legal. I used them in the 37mm mounted under the ar-15. shot them out into slue and would then shoot the yotes that came running out. The 37mm ones would easily do 150 yards. 0 -
Not sure where you are from but they are illegal in IL. Also be careful of your surroundings, could easily start a good forest fire shooting those off. 0
