Important AR15 Question Here ...

Can someone tell me what three parts on an AR15 that are subject to fail the most often.
I want to stock up on those parts that are prone to break so Im prepared in the field if any one of my fine rifles breaks down.
Any and all advise/help is appreciated in advance.

    The extractor and extractor spring.

    If you are worried about getting back in service quick a spare bolt would be the way to go. There are holders for storing them in your gip.

    Not sure what the current availablity of parts are these days but a spare spring, pin, and extractor sets were cheep to get and have on hand.

    I'd also recommend you get a couple extra of those cotter pins and gas rings.

    What they have already told you. I always keep 2 extra mag rebuild kits for All of my Double stack mags, But everyone tells me I dont need them. The bolt carrier is a heatsink on DI guns, I alway keep a complete BCG for most of my rifles as well.

    The aluminum 30rnd mag bodies are one of the weak points of the AR platform, (and any other platform that uses them) alot of folks consider them to be consumable parts. So it prudent to have a few more, or a bunch more then you think you'll need.


    An extra bolt or (three) that you know will headspace is a good Idea also. Per rifle. Fireing pens..1 lower Rebuild kit per rifle. manual says to replace them every 5,000-7,000 shots to reduce the chances of breakage during fireing.

    I have an complete extra colt bolt carrier group I keep incase.. I figure if I'm at a match and my gun goes down from an extractor or something, I can always walk to my truck or get the carrier out of my shooting back, quick swap and keep shooting that day.

    If you'll be firing LOTS of rounds, having an extra bolt on hand isn't a bad idea. It's especially true if the one in your rifle isn't marked as magnetic particle inspected.

    I also suggest a spare charging handle. Accidents happen. Had a barreled upper fall over, didn't think it would be hurt. Picked it up, must have hit on the handle part sticking out, broke it right off.
