bayonet lug

hi, considerng purchasing a romak 3 from IO however they dont come with the bayo lug...does any one know if it possible to have it installed after the fact if i know a good machinist? also...anyone have any experience with these rifles...ive been throwin the idea of gettin one around for awhile becasue i let a russian tigr slip through my hands...

    I have a AR-15 that I purchased new around 1990. It is still new as I never fired it. It came packaged with the Colt 22 conversion kit, even though I didn't order it that way. My question is about the bayonet lug. It doesn't have one. I have read that pre-ban Ar-15's had the lug so I am confused. It is still in the green label box, serial number GS0084xx. Also, the two magazines are 20 round blocked down to 5. Is this firearm what people want to term pre-ban? Thank you for any responses. This is a very educational forum.

    if it does not have a threaded muzzle or flash hider, it would be a post ban configuration.

    No lug and no flash hider(permanently attached compensators are ok)mean post ban configuration.


    Bayo lug with threaded muzzle/flash hider are pre ban configurations.


    Colt bent to the political pressure and took "evil" features off their rifles. Even though there is no more federal ban, they still sell civilian rifles in post ban configuration.

    The 6550 was made from 1988-90. Colt buckled in before the '94 ban came in and removed the "EVIL" bayonet lug, and blocked the mags. Yours is still considered a "PRE-BAN"

    Splitcane, your rifle is one of the more "collectible" rifles: It is pre-ban AND it is NIB, PLUS it has the added option of the .22 conversion kit. There are a lot of guys out there who would love to have your AR, & would pay good money for it.

    The mag block was used for quite a few years prior to talk of a hi-cap ban, intended for hunting use where the number of rounds in the mag is limited. Technically, it is still a hi-cap mag. You can easily remove the block after you take off the floor plate.

    the blocks could be riveted to the floor plate. if so, leave them as is and pick up some unblocked mags if you want to hammer your ar. does the lower have a sear block?

    After your question about the sear block I went and looked and it does not have the sear block. I guess it seems wierd to have never fired it, but I used to have on in the 80's and fired it alot before I traded it away. The only reason I purchased this ar was because at the time there was rumor that Colt was either going out of business or change of ownership, I don't really remember but I do remember there was a frenzy to get ar-15's. Anyway the longer you go without firing a firearm the harder it is to take the "new" out of it. I'm sure if I pass it to my son the unfired condition will quickly change.
