Has Anyone Seen This On A Winchester 94 Before?

I have a Winchester Model 94 30/30 with a receiver that is not finished. Every edge on the wood and metal looks factory and the serial number on the receiver shows a manufacture date of 1981. Has anyone seen this before? Is this Good or Bad? How do I take are of it?

    Show us a pic?? Look like the reciever has just been polished. I would think after it left the factory. I would just be sure and keep it oiled.

    Looks to me like it has had the finish polished off.

    It might be your photos? But it looks like the finish called electroless nickel to me. I don't know if this was offered as a factory finish, or was done after it left Winchester?

    1981 is also the time frame when U.S. Repeating Arms took over production from Winchester. This might have a bearing on what appears to be a variant finish.

    If it was polished off, should I leave it that way or have it finished?

    I can see some minor surface spots that might be rust or a stain. They are so light that the camera cannot pick them up. Also it doesn't look like any coating or plating was done but I cannot be certain. I guess I will need to take it to a gun shop and have them check it out. If it was polished off and is nothing special, then I can do whatever I want to and it wont hurt the value. If it was sent from the factory that way then I do not want to mess with it. Either way it is in excellent shape.

    Look at the screw holes. They look like they are rounded from polishing the reciever.

    Didn't notice that, I will have to take a closer look at it.

    Refinished. Screw holes dished out from polishing.
    Receiver may be Pearlitic Malleable Cast Iron which should be pretty
    corrosion resistant without a finish.

    I agree with those who believe that it has been stripped & polished. There is clear evidence of dishing around the screw holes, and the radiuses on the frame have been rounded. Have your local 'smith reblue it (unless you like the current look).
