Can LocTITE be used to mount an AR 15 front sight?

Somewhere, I read a blurb that advocated using a LocTITE product for mounting the front sight/gas block to an AR 15 barrel. The LocTITE was used in Lou of the more traditional methods to reduce stresses on a match barrel. It sounds a little hokey to me, but then LocTITE makes some pretty awesome stuff. Does anyone have experience, information and/or suggestions about this application?

    Not an expert on attaching stuff to an AR barrel, but read the spec sheet on loc-tite. What breaks it loose is HEAT.

    from my experience the sealant will keep torqed screws from backing out on their own. if you want to remove them, heat will make it easier.

    Hello roybme,

    Loctite makes a lot of different products other than the familier blue 232 thread locker. I would check their web site to see if any of their products would be suitable for your application. They are currently a division of Henkel.

    You're talking about using nothing but loctite as a glue, in effect, to secure a fully functioning gas block on an AR - correct? I've used some pretty strong loctite, I think black is the strongest I've used. I can not imagine that loctite would work. I've built a half dozen or so ARs, I think anything other than a strong mechanical attachment (screws or pins) would not work properly.

    It varies somewhat depending upon barrel length, powder used, etc. but consider the fact that there's somewhere up around 40,000 lbs. of gas pressure passing up through your front sight base.

    I agree with TXS. I could see it used in conjuction with but not by it's self. It may help seal a poor fitting one.
