winchester model 12 serial number stamp

Did a Winchester Model 12 ever leave the factory withoutthe serial number stamped on the "front end" or barrel extension?? I've seen a couple I wanted to bid on but could only see sn on the receiver and not the "front half". They didn't look refinished, and otherwise looked good. I can't get enough of these things but wouldn't want a mongrel amongst my pure-breads.

    The answer to your question is No, they did not let one out the door sans a serial number on the barrel assembly. Every single one of them were hand fitted to ensure that they functioned flawlessly, and part of the process was to verify that both halfs were serial numbered to match. If you are seeing guns without a serial number on the barrel assembly, they most likely have been refinished.

    I think that you are somewhat "tetched"... the last time I checked, 200 x $100 = $20,000.

    Just for you though, I will throw in an original (full) box of cartridges to go with the rifle[;)].
