cape gun fore end removal

The other gun I have is a cape gun; 12 gauge on one side, and rifle on the other. Can't tell what caliber. I am trying to remove the foreend but it won't budge. It has a serrated washer in the foreend with a screw end showing. I am wondering if I tap out the back site, there will be a screw I can remove to take off the fore end and therefore break the gun down for inspection. Please advise.

    Really a very broad question on a gun we cant even see, let alone know about.....Hit it with a hammer.[:o)]..or you could post a photo or a brand name to see if anyone else has one. [;)]

    I doubt that there is a hidden screw. the Serrated washer is NOT a washer But a metal insert that has the ridges to keep from turning in the wood. Many double guns have a fore-arm that just SNAPS onto the barrel The wood of the forearm has a IRON inletted into the wood held in place by screw and this IRON has a latch that engages a stud on the barrel . grasp the forearm and firmly pull away from the barrels . DO NOT force or use tools just a firm tug. If this does not work STOP and post pictures.

    Yeah she's not going to budge. I tapped out the back sight. No screw under it. Good call on the washer. I can see how the serrations would hold it in the wood. The gun is a 12ga x 38-55, by H. Pieper.
