Winchester Model 12
Looking for a model 12 in 20ga. or 12ga. made in 1953. What ser. # range would I be looking for?

I purchased a 20ga. today. It needs a little restoration to make it a respectable quail gun. However when I got home with her, I thought I knew how to break the gun down(it is a take down model). Igot it apart but can't seem to get her back togather! Can someone help? Does the bolt need to be forward as in closed?[:(] 0 -

Ron,
According to Dave Riffle's book "The Model 12", your gun should have a 26" barrel, 2 9/16" chamber, full choke and a "perch-belly" stock. The serial number indicates the gun was manufacture in 1913.0 -

I forgot to mention that your model 12 should also have a wooden forearm 5 inches long with 13 grooves.0 -
there were some 12 and 16ga model 12s made in 1913...most likely trial production runs...but the 12ga and 16ga did not appear in the Winchester Catalog until 1914...I dont know if any of the 1913 made guns were shipped B4 the 1914 catalog came out or if they were held in inventory until the catalog was issued?... 0 -
This is one of many cases where Winchester produced a particular gun several months before it was first listed in the catalogs.
To give you a similar example, Winchester did not announce the 32 Winchester Special (W.S.) cartridge for the Model 1894 until the June 1902 catalog... however, the first actual rifle made in that caliber was received in the warehouse in early October of 1901.
Winchester did indeed make and sell both 12 gauge and 16 gauge Model 1912s in the year 1913. Keep in mind that the very first Model 1912 was not fully assembled and received in the warehouse until August 30th, 1912.0 -
