Ruger 41 magnum conversion on new flat top?

Gents:

Can anyone tell me if this is a feasible project; take one of the new 50th Anniversary Flat Top Blackhawks in .357 magnum and convert to 5 shot 41 magnum (not special)? Would seem to me would make a great back-country packing pistol.

    Why not just buy a 41 mag Blackhawk??

    Yes it is very possible...41 Magnum cylinder(6 shot) and barrel is all that should be required, and then timing of course. The barrel and cylinder will require fitting by a qualified pistol smith.

    You do not need to drop to 5 shot, as the 41 is on the Blackhawk frame, not the Super Blackhawk...although they did make a SBH Hunter in 41 Magnum.

    Sometimes cheaper does not get us what we want...especially if they do not make it. He wants a flat top in 41 Magnum, and to my knowledge, they NEVER made one...new or old model.

    If you decide to do this check out Gary Reader's 41 GNR wildcat. I love mine. Better than 44 Mag ballistics with recoil less than most 44 Mag loads.

    i guess i have one of the "NEVER made one" series, it was one of the first off the assemblers table, very low 3 digit S/N

    I bet Hamilton Bowen could do a really slick job on turning that .357 into a .41 Mag. I have a early blackhawk .41 Mag and it is such a sweet shooting revolver.

    ????????????? My 50th Anniversary is a smaller (colt size) frame than my 41 Blackhawk. Thats the point in getting the conversion. Thats why I bought mine for eventual conversion. Not 100% sure but I think it's recommended that the 6 shot be kept to the 41 special and the 5 shot to the magnum for safety reasons.

    If I ever get the money together mine will become a 4" 41 special probably in a 5 shot.

    If you have questions check with Lloyd Smale on the Greybeard site. He had one done, though I think he used and old model flattop.
