I called the atf they would not talk on the phone so i asked to make an appointment they would not do that either. They told me to talk to the fbi. I then talked to the fbi they said they could not help me. The last time i tried to get a rifle the ffl holder talked to whoever runs the back ground check and they were going to send the paperwork for the id number 2 months later i am still waiting. My only problem is in NC i can not get more than 5 pistol permits a year. I can use them for any type of gun but i dont want to waste it for a long gun. I cant get long guns from pawn shops but gun dealers sell to me. I just hate getting the run around. Thanks David

    I live in North Carolina.
    You don't need a permit for a long gun.
    If FFL dealers give you the runaround, and you are not prohibited from owning firearms, it is easy enough to buy rifles in a face to face deal.
    The IWANNA paper here in Asheville has hundreds of rifles for sale by private individuals.

    An FFL should be able to give you a sheet with an address for the exact place to write for an individual number. As I recall it was indeed an FBI address. I will look and see what I have on file.

    Dav call 1.877.444.6427 and tell them you would like have a voluntary Appeal File. That will allow you to request the basis for your delays. That is the beginning of the process to get an individual ID number. If in fact you have no arrest record you should be able to get this sorted out.
