reloading
I just started reloading last night. I bought the lee anniversary kit and the problem i have is when i seat the round i seat it in too far. i dont know when to stop applying pressure to the lever. Can anyone help me out. BTW i'm reloading 45 acp

I have never reloaded, but am interested in doing so. I was given a RCBS Green Machine that has .357 dies in it. I have read a little about this machine and am confused. Is this machine set for only that caliber and can't be changed. If so is it worth anything if I sell it to get other reloader?

If (seated below the ring ) means the crimp ring is exposed when seated to COAL max. Then yes, you can seat the bullet to the crimp ring.
My loading manual does not list a bullet that light, however the 180 gr
is listed as 2.840".So a lighter bullet would be shorter still.
If you don't have a Lyman loading manual, I recommend getting one, it has OAL measurements for each brand/weight of bullet.0 -

The cannelure is for crimping the bullet so it doesn't move under recoil. The OAL or COL is established by the length of the magazine. This information is from the Hodgdon website:

One thing to consider is that the cannelure may not be in the correct location for the cartridge your reloading. IOW is it located for the 325 WSM, the 8mm-06, the 8mm Rem Mag, the 8mm Mauser or some other round.
If your not crimping (and I see no reason to on such a light recoiling rifle), than the location of the groove doesn't matter.0 -
Make sure your case is trimmed to the correct length. Cases will 'lengthen out' after repeated firings and can affect where the bullet will be seated in response to the overall loaded round length. 0 -

I agree with tailgunner54 in that there are differences from cartridge to cartridge in how deep to seat the bullet. I personally think that that rifle will do just fine with the normal amount of neck tension and no crimp. Nothing wrong with it if you do though.
Since the crimp isn't necessary I would at this point worry about how your seating depth affects the accuracy of the rifle. Seat the bullets in relation to the lands however they shoot best.

thanks guys i just tried them at the 2.860 and there was a big difference in accuracy compared to 2.820 the brass is all new winchester. i am not even sure what the factory loads are for length. i buy brass and reload everything. thanks again for all your input 0
