enfield bolt conversion to cock on opening

Used to see ads in the "rifleman" etal re: "make your enfield or mauser rifle as modern as tomorrow" and they advertised a kit to modify the bolt to cock on opening instead of closing. Anybody know what happened to these or if they are still available.

    there are two kinds, gunparts sells one that you must use a stock trigger with. Brownells sells one that comes with and adjustable trigger (the better of the 2 imo).

    I suggest getting used to the original cock-on-close or get another rifle. This conversion requires some knowledge and machining.

    Thanks- Looked in Brownells too and didn't see it. I assummed the speedlock kits consisted of a heavier spring and lightened striker.

    I have a Eddystone that has been converted, all the work was done by hand and it used the stantard trigger. I tried to get the bolt apart to clean it out, the heavy duty spring they instllled made the firing pin almost impossable to get out and it took a piece of a finger or palm to get out. After shoot two times the firing pin will give light stricks, the only thing I can think that might couse this is the spring takes up more space in side bolt, I just clean the bolt every time I shoot it.

    Remember this is only on the P-14 Enfield, not the SMLE or No4 rifles.

    I have a couple I got from Midway for the P-14 but have never used one. I bought them when I was ordering the magnum magazine boxes.

    Seems like it's easier to operate the old way. If you want a quick second shot you need to get rid of the spent one quick without a struggle, and it's no problem to slam in a new one, easier to feed it and you never notice the force to cock it.

    The P-17 has the same bolt with the face of the bolt and mag well for 30.06 to create the Enfield pattern model M1917, P-17 is cock on closing.

    Added:

    The Eddystone I have is a very good example of 1956-60 gunsmiths taking Military rifles and converting them for hunting. The rifle has the ears cut of the rear sight, stripper clip area milled out, tapped for scope, later model Remintton barrel installed, very nice European walnut stock, bolt modified for cock on open, I added Timney trigger. This is type of rifle and where you bolt modification came from althought there are earler examples of it.

    Just to clarify-the P14 and the U.S. Model of 1917 do not fully cock on the closing stroke of the bolt. They actually are half cocked on
    the opening stroke and full cocked on the closing stroke.
    I, like I.Hute, have a couple but never installed them.
    I just shoot them as originally designed.
