If I order a pre-ban upper receiver and put it on a post ban lower receiver, what would happen to either me or the gun?

I live on Long Island, part of New york. I can legally own an AR-15. I want to order a pre-ban upper and have it shipped to my door. Then I want to have a post ban lower shipped to an FFL where I can then pick it up, bring it home, and assemble the thing. Is this really any sort of violation or crime??

    It is a violation of your state laws. I am not sure what the penalties of breaking that law is but I would expect the loss of most of your rights for very long time if not forever.

    To find out for sure you would have to go and look at your state laws and see what they say. There are a couple of guys here that live in that area that might be able to tell you the actual law off the top of their head.

    This should be accurate and it comes from the ATF, http://www.atf.gov/firearms/statelaws/ just click on your state and then do lots of reading.

    Long Island is made up of 4 boroughs; 2 of these are in New York City. The specific firearms laws that cover you are determined by EXACTLY where you live.

    In the case of so-called assault weapons, the ONLY safe option for you is go to a local gun dealer & buy what he has in stock, or is willing to order for you.
