How many manufactures make something like this other than Thompson ?
Just looking for a shooter of some kind---Help would be appreciated..

    The ones that I can think of off the top of my head are:

    AR's
    HK USC
    Beretta Storm
    Marlin camp 45
    Uzi
    Mac 10 carbine
    Mag Tech upper for you 1911

    Cost varies from about $600 to over $1500 and some are no longer made but can still be found semi easily.

    I know you guys hate Hi Points, but they have one in development and it should be out late Summer or early Fall, from what I hear. It will probably be alot less money than the others mentioned. Just a "heads up." I happen to think their carbines are o.k.

    There are a few home built FALs in 45 acp as well.

    In theory, anything capable of holding a 308 shell (.473? head ) could be converted to 45acp

    I thought 308 was .308 just like 30 carbine 30-06 and 308.Where did you come up with .473???

    Case head diameter... not bullet diameter

    I don't hate them; I just don't care for the way the old ones look.

    They're reliable and reasonably accurate and with the new furniture they have coming out, they no longer look like humpbacked whales![8D]

    I'm new to this it is my understanding that the dia. of the shell case is the head space.All the reciever does is load the shell from the mag or clip to the barrel of the gun.The barrel is what house the shell to be fired and not the reciever.I'm not chalenging anyone I just would like to know. Sorry about spelling

    .45 ACP/.308 has almost the same head diameter. Eliminates one big problem in doing a swap, such as altering the bolt head.

    And, headspace, it's a given chamber length from the boltface to a pre-determined point in the chamber. In the case of .45 ACP, it's to the ridge in the chamber. In .308 it's to a datum on the chamber slope where the case shoulder contacts it. It's not the chamber/case diameter. Best, Joe
